How to Set Up Recurring Board Game Events
Running a weekly board game night? Learn how to create recurring events that automatically generate, so you never have to manually schedule the same event again.
If you're running a regular board game night—whether it's weekly with friends, monthly with a larger group, or anything in between—you know the pain of recreating the same event over and over.
That's why we built recurring events into tableport.
The Problem with One-Off Events
Many gaming groups meet on a regular schedule:
- Weekly Wednesday game nights
- First Saturday of every month
- Every other Friday
- Second Tuesday (for that one gaming group)
Creating each instance manually means:
- Remembering to create the event each time
- Re-entering the same details repeatedly
- Re-inviting the same people
- Losing connection between related events
How Recurring Events Work
Instead of creating individual events, you create an event series. You define the pattern once:
- When it repeats, weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, etc.
- Which day, Monday through Sunday
- What time, your default start time
- Where, the usual location
- How long, expected duration
The system then automatically generates upcoming occurrences for you. No more manual scheduling.
Recurrence Patterns We Support
Weekly Events
The classic game night setup. Pick a day of the week, and events generate every week on that day. Perfect for:
- Regular weekly gaming groups
- Club meetings
- Casual friend hangouts
Monthly Events
For larger gatherings or groups that meet less frequently. Options include:
- Specific date, the 15th of every month
- Day of week, the second Saturday of every month
- First/last of month, first Monday, last Friday, etc.
Bi-Weekly and Custom
We also support bi-weekly patterns and are expanding to more complex recurrence rules based on user feedback.
Managing Your Series
Once a series is created, you can:
Modify Individual Occurrences
Need to change just one event in the series? Maybe this week's game night is at a different location, or you need to start an hour later. You can edit individual occurrences without affecting the rest of the series.
Update the Entire Series
Changed your regular meeting time? Update the series settings and apply changes to all future occurrences at once.
Add Games to the Series
Tie specific games to your event series. When you add a game, it automatically appears on future occurrences. Perfect if your group always plays certain games, or if you want to maintain a "rotation" of games your group regularly plays.
Subscriber System
People can subscribe to your event series. Subscribers automatically get notified about upcoming occurrences without needing to be individually invited each time.
Tracking Across Events
You can track statistics across all occurrences. Who's winning over time? Which games get played most at your regular game night? Your series history shows you patterns you'd never see with isolated events.
Whether you meet every week or host an annual gaming retreat, recurring events eliminate the scheduling busywork. Set it up once and you're done.
